Itinerary Overview

This 3-day journey is designed to challenge your riding skills and deepen your connection with Vietnam's stunning natural beauty and warm-hearted ethnic communities.

Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau (~200 km / 6 hours ride)

We kick off our adventure around 9:30 AM, after Hanoi's morning rush. We'll take the scenic dike road along the Red River, a straightforward route to Son Tay (45km), bypassing inner-city traffic. Then, we'll turn left at Trung Ha bridge, following another river road along the majestic Da (Black) River to Hoa Binh. The real thrill begins as we tackle the legendary Cun Pass, the dramatic gateway to Northwest Vietnam.

Leaving the bustling Red River Delta behind, you'll ride through towering limestone monoliths and into the peaceful foothills inhabited by the Muong people. We'll conquer a high, beautifully forested pass before descending into the hidden valley of Mai Chau. Here, we'll spend the night with new friends in a traditional Thai stilt house.

Mai Chau valley, nestled between the Da River and the Ma River, is incredibly fertile, boasting diverse landscapes of mountains, forests, lakes, and rivers. Its network of small footpaths offers endless trekking possibilities. In and around Mai Chau, you'll encounter the Muong, White Thai, H'mong (in higher elevations), and Dao ethnic groups, sharing vibrant markets and tranquil villages.

Day 2: Mai Chau – Pu Luong Natural Reserve (~100 km / 3-4 hours ride)

For those craving an exhilarating off-road experience, Day 2 offers a challenging ride to Pu Luong Natural Reserve. While not far in distance, the demanding single dirt tracks will test your skills and provide an authentic taste of adventure riding.

Pu Luong is a stunning nature reserve, characterized by two parallel mountain ridges running from northwest to southeast, divided by a central valley of human settlements and vast agricultural lands. This biodiverse haven is closely connected to Cuc Phuong National Park, just 25km southeast, offering incredible flora and fauna. Get ready for breathtaking views and a truly immersive nature experience.

Day 3: Pu Luong – Mai Chau – Hanoi (~220 km / 6-7 hours ride)

We'll depart Pu Luong, passing back through Mai Chau, then take a scenic route via Bai Chao as we head back to Hanoi. This will be another long but incredibly rewarding riding day, filled with picturesque landscapes.

After three days on the road, you'll be well-prepared for Vietnam's unique traffic. We'll return via Highway 6, looping back to Hanoi through Ha Dong. This final stretch offers a thrilling challenge, allowing you to test your flow in one of the world's most dynamic "traffic rivers."

Our Mai Chau & Pu Luong adventure concludes around 4:00 PM, helping you beat the evening rush hours back in Hanoi.
